Pollinator party July 26, 2011

Filed under: markets and events — queen frederica @ 5:10 pm

This Thursday there is the Pollinator Party going on through the Minneapolis Park Board down at Lake Harriet Lyndale Park Gardens. Starting at 5pm there will be all things pollinators going on. I will be there with my super all natural lip balms and show you what you need to make your own. If you haven’t already seen Queen of the Sun, you MUST stay and watch this film. It goes over a lot about what is happening in the bee world now.

It’s going to be a great night so I hope to see some of you out there! Here is a link to the park’s website:

honey update July 20, 2011

Filed under: summertime happenings — queen frederica @ 9:11 pm

Many of you have been asking about honey lately. I regret to inform you that we do not have honey yet. In a previous blog post I gave you a general idea of the process from nectar to honey. Our bees have been bringing in nectar for quite some time now but it is not ready to harvest. When it is you will definitely be reading about it here!

Many beekeepers are quick to pull honey when it is still not quite ready — this varies from person to person, though. Maybe it’s just me being a stubborn redhead, but I will never compromise quality of the way we manage our bees or the honey they create just so I can fill an order. My fellow Americans, not everything is plugged into this society of convenience.

Sorry, folks, if we were to pull honey now it would be like picking a tomato from the vine now. I don’t know about you, but my ‘maters are still green.

Watch this space for Bone Lake Meadows updates!!
